1906 Vicente Arias
Vicente Arias born in Alcazar de San Juan, Ciudad Real, in 1833, is the guitar maker I admire the most. Arias started as a cabinet maker, but he found that his name could only be affixed to the bottom or back of the furniture. Those who appreciate his work had no way of knowing whose work it was. He was astonished by the fact that the label on guitars were placed in a prominent position, and thus decided to switch to making guitars around 1860.
Arias’s career could be broken into two “epochs”. The Ciudad Real epoch(1889-1903), and the Madrid epoch(1903-1914). Arias is known for its unparalleled craftsmanship and unique beautiful quality of tone.
This particular instrument is from the Madrid epoch. Shorter scale length(640mm), humble material(spruce and maple), with simpler decoration, but truly elegant and beautiful sound.
